Maybe July wasn’t so bad. But I think August will be even better!
I figured the participation rates for COLD would be more frigid than for YELLOW. And they were. Only the hardiest of participants braved the low temperatures of COLD photography and submitted a COLD picture. I expect this week’s theme to be a tough one as well.
However, it isn’t all bad news for participation rates. This week there is a first time submitter. Sheri Farkhouri submitted for the first time. Welcome aborad Sheri!!!

But enough dwelling on the past. Time to look to the future. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future! This week’s theme:
HUMANIZE! What a great theme! But what is it? HUMANIZE is when you take something that isn’t human and give it human characteristics. Like greed, jealousy, and avarice. Or perhaps give it ears and eyes and a nose and a mouth. Hint: This is popular with toys. Or another example would be to be insanely cruel to your dog and put them in clothes.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 RULES DIVISION
1. The picture has to be taken the week of the theme. This isn’t a curate your pictures challenge. This is a get your butt off the couch (my personal experience) and put your camera in your hands challenge. Don’t send me a picture of you next to the Eiffel Tower, when I know you were in Iowa all week. I will point out that I have let that slide some in the past. I will not in the future. Since it is literally about the only rule.
2. Your submission needs to be emailed to bennett@photography139.com by 11 AM on the Monday of the challenge. It should be pointed out that this blog auto-publishes at 12:01 on Mondays. So it wouldn’t hurt to get your picture in earlier.
That is it, them’s the rules.

A couple of Sundays ago my church said goodbye to our Choir Director David Sponder and our Nursery Directory Erica Melhaus.
I was tasked with taking a few photos. Here are a few of those photos:
David accepted a teaching position in northwest Iowa. Erica will be attending on of the finest equestrian programs in the nation in Ohio. They both will do amazing things in the future!
For the second straight year, Baby Got Rack competed at the Boone County Fair barbecue competition. Sponsored by State Farm or Farm Bureau or some insurance company.
Here are a few snaps from the very, very, very hot day:
BGR needs to thank Jesse for bulling it up, Willy for taking some of the photos, and for all of our super fans that came out to support us.
I honestly can’t remember how we did exactly, but I think it went something like this:
Tied for Best Overall for Lamb
Won Lamb
Won Pork
Won Turkey
2nd in Chicken
3rd in Beef
Or something like that.
By winning a category, we clinched a birth at the State Fair barbecue competition. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to contend because some of us have to adult on that day.
However, Baby Got Rack will be back at it during the Pufferbilly Days Barbecue Contest. If it is the same as last year, it will be on the Sunday of Pufferbilly days on the corner of 8th and Story.
So come down on Sunday, September 3. Look at the Photo Contest photos and then come over for some award winning barbecue. You won’t be disappointed!
YELLOW really got the old creative juices flowing. I’d reckon that there is close to a record number of submissions this week.

I wish I could tell you the remaining themes are as easily accessible as YELLOW and SKY, but they aren’t. There are some challenging ones in there. But I know you guys are up to the challenge!
