By adding these images to the Photography 139 Gallery, I was able to restore the following classic An Artist’s Notebook journal entries to their original glory:

SHAVE AND A HARICUT
VEISHEA
LWL PHOTO SHOOT

The majority of these pictures were taken at VEISHEA, back before Iowa State (and it’s incredibly corrupt president at the time) mistakenly canceled VEISHEA. I spent a good part of that day hanging out with Jeff and Yin. This was before Jeff and Yin got married. Their wedding was one of the best weddings I’ve ever attended. You know how most weddings are incredibly lame and a complete waste of a Saturday? Well there wedding was actually fun and not a waste of a Saturday. Which is doubly amazing because their wedding was in Nebraska, the worst state in the union. The secret to the greatness of their wedding? Ice cream truck.

Jeff and Yin now have a little baby running around and I have yet to meet him, because at times, I am a horrible friend.

The photos of Shannon were taken during a photo shoot for Little White Lye Soap from back when I had that account.

Next Saturday’s stroll down memory lane will involve an Iowa State Spring Game and more Little White Lye Soap.

  1. I actually support the no Spring Game. Not because the weather might have been unpleasant for fans, but because there is no way that field was going to be in any kind of shape to play on.

Not worth risking injuries to any players, especially with our history of QBs tearing an ACL during spring practice.

  2. I was just kidding. I agree – why tear up the grass and get someone hurt? There were a ton of message board-era riled up before the weather started.

  3. Why I hate message boards so much.

I think even if the weather would have been nice on Saturday, the field still wouldn’t have been in shape to play on. It had several inches of snow on it on Monday and the turf hasn’t been growing yet.

I’ll be interested to see how they “make it up to the fans”. I’m sure whatever they do will be better than the Spring Game.

Which while I do attend every year, is actually pretty awful.

  4. I don’t think I have ever really enjoyed the Spring Break yet. I think there are more fan-based events that could be better. The practice would have torn up a drenched field, even if it were sunny and warm.

May 4, we leave! I am getting really excited, but also nervous to leave the kids.

  5. The main thing I miss about the lack of a Spring Game is getting the football poster.

You’ve been a little MIA on the WPC lately. Thought maybe you left the country in shame.

I haven’t enjoyed Spring Break since college. I think this is one of the trade-offs for adulting.

I’m sure it will be much more traumatic on you than it will be on your kids.

  6. Yeah, I’ve been going through some medical stuff (not terrible or anything, just time-consuming). It’s spread me thin – I’m hoping to step it up later!

Yeah, Spring Break loses a lot of meaning when you still have to work – but in our case, also find daycare for the kids for some reason.

They’re going to do fine. Charlie is pretty attached, but I think he’ll be okay.
