The church is getting new carpet in the sanctuary. Last Sunday some members of the youth group removed the old carpet. Here are a few photos:
Having the Youth Group remove the carpet saved the church nearly a thousand dollars!
Easter was a big day (naturally) at our church for the Youth Group. They starred in the Sonrise Service. Served Egg Bake between the Tradition and Contemporary Worship Services. They ran an Easter Egg Hunt.
Here are a few pictures from that day. Easter Egg Hunt photo credit to Jaxon Schoff.
I hope your Easter was as wonderful as mine and these photos only cover about 4 hours of my wonderful Easter!
A couple of Sundays ago was Confirmation Sunday in my church. It was a big day for the Youth Group as 5 members became full members of the church AND for the Methodist Men as we served a brunch in between services to celebrate their accomplishments.
Here are a few pictures from the day:
All 5 of these kids bring such wonderful, unique, and amazing dimensions to our church. I’m excited to see where their faith journeys take them.
Now would be a good time to check in on the Selfie Project. I’ve attempted and failed at this project 3 times now. The farthest I’ve ever made it is 116 days. I feel like this just might be the year.
Here are some of my favorites from March:
I do post these daily on Instagram. You can follow me here: @christopherdbennett
A few weeks back, the Methodist Men had a Biscuits & Gravy Breakfast Fundraiser. Here are a few cruddy cell phone pictures from the event:
It was quite the success! In fact, might have been too big of a success. We actually ran out of gravy. An error that will not be repeated in future Methodist Men meals.
I was told this week’s challenge theme was really hard. That guarantees it will be back next year. Also, this week’s theme is even harder. So let’s get after it!
But you don’t want to listen to me talk all tommyrot about how hard things are, you want to see this week’s submissions. Here they be:
A solid, albeit small collection of submissions.
But enough dwelling on the past. Time to look to the future. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future! This week’s theme:
But what is ABSTRACT?
Here is one definition:
existing in thought or as an idea but not having a physical or concrete existence.
Therefore, this is an image that doesn’t necessarily look like anything. My suggestion is to play with lights, a dark room, and long exposure times. If you aren’t so daring, find a modern art masterpiece to photograph. If you are boring, go to an abstract office. Actually, I’ll laugh (but probably not out loud) if somebody sends me a picture of a property ABSTRACT.
A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 RULES DIVISION
1. The picture has to be taken the week of the theme. This isn’t a curate your pictures challenge. This is a get your butt off the couch (my personal experience) and put your camera in your hands challenge. Don’t send me a picture of you next to the Eiffel Tower, when I know you were in Iowa all week. I will point out that I have let that slide some in the past. I will not in the future. Since it is literally about the only rule.
2. Your submission needs to be emailed to bennett@photography139.com by 11 AM on the Monday of the challenge. It should be pointed out that this blog auto-publishes at 12:01 on Mondays. So it wouldn’t hurt to get your picture in earlier.
That is it, them’s the rules.
A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION DIVISION
Kio Dettman has become the latest person to show class, taste, and sophistication by signing up for a Photography 139 email subscription. This is a big deal because after years of my trying to get him to get an email, he has one! Kio is on about 30 committees at my church. He was last year’s Methodist Men President and is currently serving as the current President’s (that is me) Secretary/Treasure. He is also very active with the Humane Society and has on more than one occasion tried to get me to wear a dog costume and be in a parade. So if you see Kio out walking the mean streets of Boone, feel free to give him a knowing glance and to teach him the super secret Photography 139 Handshake!
Want your own Photography 139 email subscription? Call, email, or text me and I’ll get you the hook up.
That’s all I got for today, so if the good Lord’s willin’ and the creek don’t rise, we will commune right here again next Monday. Hopefully it will be a very abstract Monday!
