Here is a collection of my favorite Instagram postings from May and June:
I can’t wait to find out what adventures I had in July and August!
My Grandpa Paris passed away a few months after I was married in 2002. All of the stuff in his garage went mostly untouched for several years. Then about 3 years ago some of my aunts and uncles decided to rent out his garage so that Grandma could have a little extra cash each month. That required emptying out the garage.
One day I received a call from my Mom asking me if I wanted to go through any of the tools before they were thrown away. I’m not really a tool person, but I came over any way. I looked through the tools and didn’t really claim much of anything, but along the side of the garage was a big pile of random stuff. I asked what that stuff was, thinking that it had been set aside for somebody else, because it looked to be some pretty good stuff.
Only this pretty good stuff had only been set aside for the garbage man. So I started looking through it.
Somewhere in this collection I found a small picture frame, with a broken piece of glass, and a hand written bit of scripture from Romans. I grabbed this, took it home, cleaned it up, and sat it in my living room.
This picture frame was moved out of my living room when I was in deep on the floor project. Recently, I found where I had placed it and brought it back to the living room. A few hours later, I started working on cleaning and organizing and downsizing my guest bedroom. In this bedroom among the stuff I need to throw away, give away or just doesn’t quite belong to me, I found a small picture frame of the same size. I decided to take the glass from this frame and put it in the frame holding my grandpa’s scripture.
I pulled the back off grandpa’s picture frame and discovered that there wasn’t just one sheet of paper in the frame. There were several other quotes in there. I never would have found these other pieces of paper, if it wasn’t for that broken piece of glass.

It definitely was a cool little discovery.
Unfortunately I didn’t have access to many columbines this year. One of my Mom’s group of columbines didn’t come up at all this year. So I made do.

I would also like to welcome Tim Tucker. He is the newest person to show his exquisite taste by becoming the latest person to sign up for an email subscription to the blog. I should point out that for many of you, this isn’t the Tim Tucker you are thinking about right now. It is an entirely different Tim Tucker. But for a few of you, this is the Tim Tucker you are thinking about right now.
Glad we could get that cleared up.
After years and years of talking about it, I finally removed my carpet from my great room and finished the floor while I was on a vacation. It was a multi-day project that involved several days of just removing furniture and I’m still in the process of putting furniture back in, although some of the furniture has been downsized.
Here are some photos of the process:
I’d like to thank my amazing floor crew. In particular, Carla and Jesse that helped a ton. Carla came over at midnight to help put on the last coat of finish, which was pretty amazing. But also:
My Mom was also a big help by giving Naima and I a place to crash while the finish dried and the fumes were at their most toxic.
Now that this project is complete (almost), the painting of the house seems so much more doable. Plus, it will require a larger crew. Not that I’m trolling for volunteers…
This Personal Photo Project was to photograph the flowers my Mom and I planted at the Photography 139 Studio that I had purchased from the Northwest Greenhouse.
The rest of the Planted Series:
Most of my flower beds are getting pretty full. I need to start digging up more ground. Fortunately, Naima is a tremendous digger. Just in all the wrong locations.
Once again I guessed wrong on when to make my annual trip to Pella. Not only was next to nothing blooming, the lighting wasn’t ideal. However, I still think I put in some work.
More from the Still Laughing – 2013 Series:
My Mom and Teresa accompanied me on the trip this year.
Tomorrow (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) more from the Still Laughing – 2013 Series.
I have wanted to visit the Cordova Observation Tower ever since I’ve known that it existed. Recently I finally got the chance, but because I wasn’t expecting to go there, I didn’t bring the lens I wanted to use to photograph it. I made do.
The rest of the Observation Series:
The tower is 106 feet tall and climbing the steps is definitely a cardio workout. At least it is for me!
