2010-08-23

The folder 2010-08-23 is absolutely stuffed to the gills. There are so many images in there I almost considered breaking it up into a couple posts, but decided against it. There are pictures in there from a trip to the Iowa State Fair and pictures of Jen and Derrick when Jen was preggers with Evie. Alexis competed in a cheerleading/tumbling competition this year.

The Stenslands 2020 – Beta

It has been over 2 months since I got back to this photo shoot with the Stenslands at the end of 2020. It was a real blessing to have gotten so many of these pictures taken with Mom. She originally was just tagging along and then she went home and changed clothes to be in some of the pictures.

2010-08-13, 2010-08-14, & 2010-08-16

There aren’t many images in the folders 2010-08-13 and 2010-08-14 so I decided to combine them with the folder 2010-08-16 that contains many pictures from a trip I took to the Iowa State Fair.

There are also pictures of Jesse and two of his progeny and of a moonflower.

PERSONAL PHOTO PROJECT OF THE WEEK #38

Next Saturday’s walk down memory lane will involve more Iowa State Fair.

2010-08-06 & 2010-08-09

The folders 2010-08-06 & 2010-08-09 are pretty small, so I combined them into one post. Half of them are pictures of a hibiscus. The other half are pictures of butterflies. Then there is one random picture of my feet. On a personal note, I really miss those shoes. Actually I miss any shoes that were remotely comfortable. As we are hopefully starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel for this pandemic, I’m probably going to need to invest in some shoes and some clothes. Definitely clothes.

Postcard Recreation Project – Schools

Today’s look at THE POSTCARD RECREATION PROJECT looks at old-timey postcards of elementary schools. I could only find old-timey postcards of Lowell, Lincoln, and the original Page. I could not find old-timey postcards of Garfield, Bryant, or Franklin. I’m sure they existed, but I can’t find any with my Google searches.

I’m not going to get into the history of elementary schools in Boone. I can’t seem to find much about it. I can only tell you that I went to Kindergarten and 1st Grade at Lowell. Then 2nd and 3rd Grade at Page. Then 4th, 5th, and 6th at Bryant. Lowell and Bryant have since been torn down. As has Garfield. I believe Page and Lincoln will also be torn down when the new school is built. But I believe that Franklin will remain. I could be wrong about that.

Here are the recreations:

The next time we look at THE POSTCARD RECREATION PROJECT it will also involve a school. I’m not sure how much gas is left in the tank for this project. But I’m sure there are about 4 or 5 of these posts left before putting this project to bed.

WPC – WEEK 292 – SHADOWS

There was amount of submissions this week for SHADOWS.

WEEL 293 - HANDS
HANDS

HANDS! Another great theme for Year 8 of THE WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE.

A HANDS image is pretty simple. It is merely a picture where the composition involves either HANDS or things that HANDS use, like gloves. It should be an easy theme, since almost everybody has HANDS or knows somebody with HANDS. I mean, even a clock has HANDS.

Think about the following quote while you are contemplating your image:

A man who works with his HANDS is a laborer; a man who works with his HANDS and his brain is a craftsman; but a man who works with his HANDS and his brain and his heart is an artist.
-Louis Nizer

Meditate on this quote and I have no doubt your submission will rise to the level of art!

RULES

The picture has to be taken between 12:01 PM today and 11 AM next Monday. This isn’t a curate your photos project. This is a get your butt off the couch (unless you are taking your picture from the couch) and take pictures challenge.

You can send your images to either bennett@photography139.com OR you may text them to my Pixel 5.

That is all I got, so if the good Lord’s willin’ and the creek don’t rise, we will all be sharing our idea of HANDS in this place that knows to keep its HANDS to itself next Monday.

WEEK 290 – SLICE OF LIFE AND WEEK 291 – DRINKS

There were two themes for last week, so might as well just get at them.

SHADOWS

A SHADOWS picture is pretty simple. It is a picture that includes a SHADOW(S) as part of the composition.

THE WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE RULES:

The picture has to be taken the week of the theme. This isn’t a curate your pictures challenge. This is a get your butt off the couch (my personal experience) and put your camera in your hands challenge. Don’t send me a picture of you next to the Eiffel Tower, when I know you were in Iowa all week. I will point out that I have let that slide some in the past. I will not in the future. Since it is literally about the only rule.

Your submission needs to be emailed to bennett@photography139.com by 11 AM on the Monday of the challenge due date.

OR

I now allow people to text me their submissions. In the past, I had made exceptions for a couple people that aren’t real computer savvy, even though it was an inconvenience for me and required at least 3 extra steps for me. I am now lifting that embargo because I have a streamline way of uploading photos. I’m not giving out my phone number, but if you have it, you can text me.

It should be pointed out that this blog auto-publishes at 12:01 on Mondays. So it wouldn’t hurt to get your picture in earlier.

That is it, them’s the rules.

Good luck!

2010-07-26

The pictures in the folder 2010-07-26 are from a road trip I took to Minnesota with Sara. It was frankly one the best road trips of my life. I got to hang out with some of my favorite people in the world. I got to see my favorite band in concert AND we went to Flugtag! Plus we ate at a really mediocre German restaurant.

Here are some pictures:

WEEK 29 - DEPTH OF FIELD - CHRISTOPHER D. BENNETT

Me and My Miracle Whip Cooler

Me and My Miracle Whip Cooler

That Miracle Whip cooler is one of my proudest possessions. If my house was on fire, it would be just outside the Top 5 things I would run in and grab. It was a gift from Sara. I believe she bought it in Wisconsin. The few chance I get to tailgate, it goes with me. It did sadly get too close to the grill recently. While it is still fully functional, one side is a little sad looking now. I think it makes me love it more!

2010-07-21

The pictures in the folder 2010-07-21 are from a photo session I had with Jen and Derrick while she was pregnant with Evie. We had 6 of these photo sessions as I documented the pregnancy process. This was the third of those sessions:
