12-30-07

The pictures from the album called 12-30-07 are more experiments with projection. I might need to get back into that in the near future. It is a good thing to play with when it is -7 out and the sun goes down at 4:05 PM.

By adding these pictures to the Photography 139 Smugmug Gallery I was able to restore the following blog to original greatness:

YEAR IN REVIEW?

In next Saturday’s waltz down Memory Lane we will make our first dip into 2008 folders. Even though most of the pictures in it were taken in 2007. The pictures will include some Christmasy stuff, a throwback to a sadly dead tradition, and photos of one of the worst humans on earth (yes, almost a worse person than Rudy Giulani).

A Photo Journal – Henry Carroll – Page 45

The other day when I was walking around at Ledges I came across what I thought would be the a good theme for Page 45 in THE PHOTO JOURNAL PROJECT:

Photo Journal - Page 45
Page 45 – Take a beautiful picture that follows no compositional rules.

Here are a few others I took at the same time, but won’t physically be printed and adhered into the physical A PHOTO JOURNAL:

A Methodist Trio

Here is a collection of photos from 3 Methodist events. The Event Formerly Known as the Methodist Men Steak Fry, Safe Trick-or-Treat Night at the Eastern Star Home, and Consecration Sunday Brunch.

One of the bizarre things about the world of social media is that bizarre things happen. I posted a picture of Johnathan and Logan grilling for the Event Formerly Known as the Methodist Men Steak Fry on our church’s Facebook page thanking everybody that made the event such a smashing success.

A lady from the church left a comment on the photo tagging her husband with the comment, “See (husband name) they are cool.”

I don’t know what she meant by this comment, but here is my theory:

This lady has tried to get her husband to be active in the Methodist Men. He has openly dismissed her because the Methodist Men are “lame” and “uncool”. However, when she saw a picture of two dudes participating in Methodist Men activities like Logan and Johnathan that are undeniably cool and comport themselves with a little bit of their uncle’s well-documented badassness, she felt that this would be the example that would make her husband see that the Methodist Men aren’t “lame”. In fact, we are “cool”.

In fact, we are pretty lame. But their is coolness in lameness when you own it.

That Nurse Came into my Room, She Told Me I’m Sick in the Head

The world wasn’t ready for these alternate FRAMED images for THE WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE yesterday. Hopefully by laying down some groundwork yesterday the world will be able to handle them. I have my doubts…

That is Willy’s eye behind the brick. The tunnel is located on the most beautiful campus in the world, Iowa State’s.

You’re welcome world!

7:01 AM

It is 7:01 AM. Some of us are already at work. The rest of you (at least those of you that live in Ward 5 of Boone, Iowa) are already standing in line at the Boone County Courthouse to cast your vote for Scott Degeneffe.

Some of you aren’t there though. Why not?

If I lived in Ward 5, I would have camped out overnight. Then tailgated in the morning. Then the moment the Boone County Courthouse doors were open, I would’ve have barged in and cast my vote for Scott Degeneffe.

Then I probably would’ve taken the rest of the day off to celebrate that I had done the best thing I could do on that day to improve the future outlook of Boone.

There was a time I was going to write a lengthy letter to the editor to the Boone News Republican about Scott’s many good points and why the good people of Ward 5 should run, not walk to the Boone County Courthouse on November 7 to cast their vote for Scott.

Unfortunately for me and maybe fortunately for Scott, time has not been my friend lately and I missed the deadline. That letter never was written.

Fortunately for you, Scott did write such a letter and I will share it with you:

If you are not an early riser, polls close at 8 PM.

Growth – Change – Partnerships

This is the second to last time I’m going to remind you that if you live in Ward 5 of the great town of Boone, Iowa you should get out and vote for Scott Degeneffe for City Council tomorrow.

However, maybe you don’t know Scott as well as I do. It is possible that you haven’t known him for over 15 years. It is possible you haven’t worked with him. It is possible you haven’t been on a competitive barbecue team with him. It is possible you don’t spend your spare time traveling the state of Iowa looking for great tenderloins with him.

It is even possible that you just don’t want to take my word that he is a tremendous choice to represent Ward 5 on the City Council because of his character, because he isn’t an ideologue, because he is a pragmatic problem solver with years of working to build consensus through compromise.

Perhaps you want to hear from the man himself! Well your lucky, below is a video where the audio track is Scott’s interview on KWBG from a few weeks back:

IF YOUR ARE VIEWING THIS BLOG POST VIA EMAIL, YOU WILL NEED TO ACTUALLY GO TO MY WEBSITE TO WATCH/LISTEN TO HIS INTERVIEW. YOU CAN GET THERE BY CLICKING ON THE TITLE OF THIS BLOG POST AT THE TOP OF THE EMAIL. IT WILL TAKE YOU STRAIGHT TO THIS BLOG POST ON MY WEBSITE. IF YOU’RE THERE, MIGHT AS WELL LEAVE A COMMENT. I’M JUST SAYING…

So give the interview a listen and then go vote for Scott Degeneffe tomorrow!

But enough dwelling on the past. Time to look to the future. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future! This week’s theme:

WEEK 113 - PARTY
PARTY! (Submitted by Sara Lockner)

PARTY! What a great theme! You don’t need to be going to a PARTY to take a picture of the PARTY theme. PARTY supplies. PARTY invitations. PARTY preparations. PARTY aftermath. They all count. Or you can hang out with me. Cause wherever I’m at, there is a party going down.

Interpret the theme however you see fit and I look forward to seeing your interpretations!

HOUSEKEEPING

A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 RULES DIVISION

1. The picture has to be taken the week of the theme. This isn’t a curate your pictures challenge. This is a get your butt off the couch (my personal experience) and put your camera in your hands challenge. Don’t send me a picture of you next to the Eiffel Tower, when I know you were in Iowa all week. I will point out that I have let that slide some in the past. I will not in the future. Since it is literally about the only rule.

2. Your submission needs to be emailed to bennett@photography139.com by 11 AM on the Monday of the challenge. It should be pointed out that this blog auto-publishes at 12:01 on Mondays. So it wouldn’t hurt to get your picture in earlier.

That is it, them’s the rules.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION DIVISION

Nothing new to report. I’ll try to do better next week.

Want your own Photography 139 email subscription? Call, email, or text me and I’ll get you the hook up.

**************************************

That’s all I got for today, so if the good Lord’s willin’ and the creek don’t rise, we will commune right here again next Monday. Hopefully it will be a very partied out Monday!
