WPC – WEEK 244 – RULE OF THIRDS

33 straight weeks of double digit submissions! There won’t be an easier theme than RULE OF THIRDS, so I’m not surprised!

But you didn’t come here to listen to me talk all tommyrot about participation rates. You came to see the submissions!

But enough dwelling on the past. Time to look to the future. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future! This week’s theme:

WEEK 245 - SELF-PORTRAIT
SELF-PORTRAIT

SELF-PORTRAIT! What a great theme! A SELF-PORTRAIT is simply when the photographer is taking a picture of themselves!

I can’t wait to see your interpretations!

HOUSEKEEPING

A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 RULES DIVISION

The picture has to be taken the week of the theme. This isn’t a curate your pictures challenge. This is a get your butt off the couch (my personal experience) and put your camera in your hands challenge. Don’t send me a picture of you next to the Eiffel Tower, when I know you were in Iowa all week. I will point out that I have let that slide some in the past. I will not in the future. Since it is literally about the only rule.

Your submission needs to be emailed to bennett@photography139.com by 11 AM on the Monday of the challenge due date.

OR

I now allow people to text me their submissions. In the past, I had made exceptions for a couple people that aren’t real computer savvy, even though it was an inconvenience for me and required at least 3 extra steps for me. I am now lifting that embargo because I have a streamline way of uploading photos. I’m not giving out my phone number, but if you have it, you can text me.

It should be pointed out that this blog auto-publishes at 12:01 on Mondays. So it wouldn’t hurt to get your picture in earlier.

That is it, them’s the rules.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION DIVISION

Elainie Hernandez is the latest person to show taste, class, and sophistication by signing for a Photography 139 email subscription. She has extended the geographic reach of the Photography 139 empire all the way to San Diego! I was hoping to visit her and Sabas this summer, but I guess we’ll have to wait to see how this pandemic plays out. I’m guessing it just won’t happen. But welcome aboard Elainie!

+++++++

That’s all I got for today, so if the good Lord’s willin’ and the creek don’t rise, we will commune right here again next Monday. Hopefully it will be a very self involved Monday!

WEEK 245 THEME REVEAL

I need to start this post by pointing out that today is a very important day. Today is Stephanie’s birthday! Happy birthday Stephanie!

Stephanie Kim - 2009

I hope your birthday is safe and amazing!

+++++++

I’m going to be away from computers for much of today, so I won’t be able to reveal the RULE OF THIRDS submissions until some point tomorrow. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t start working on this week’s theme right away:

WEEK 245 - SELF-PORTRAIT
SELF-PORTRAIT

A SELF-PORTRAIT picture is quite simply, a picture of yourself. Almost, but not quite as easy as RULE OF THIRDS.

I look forward to seeing your interpretations!

+++++++

I also recently added to THE CANVAS WALL PROJECT. I eight new 16×20 images to the wall. I’m almost done with the project. I have basically the bottom row to finish. Most of those pictures have been ordered too and should arrive sometime this week.

However, these are the eight 16×20 images that were most recently added to the wall:

Canvas No. 54

Canvas No. 55

Canvas No. 56

Canvas No. 57

Canvas No. 58

Canvas No. 60

After I get the pictures that should arrive on Wednesday in place, I believe I will only need 4 more pictures to finish this project off. But it could be more. I could also be less. But my initial calculations indicate 4 more.

But I’ve been wrong before. Don’t want to be wrong any more.

2009-11-14

The pictures in the folder 2009-11-14 are from the last home Iowa State football game from 2009. It was a victory over Colorado that made the Cyclones bowl eligible.

It was shocking that Iowa State had a successful season that year because it was Paul Rhoads’ first season and the two years under Gene Chizik were an unmitigated disaster. At least that was the perception at the time.

I don’t want to say that I think Chizik was a good coach, but in retrospect, he was upgrading the talent pool at Iowa State. He didn’t stick around to benefit from the upgraded talent. Rhoads did benefit, but he wasn’t a very good recruiter and his tenure eventually ended somewhat chaotically.

It was a good first season. They would go on to beat a mid-major team, the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the Insight Bowl.

Colorado shortly left the Big 12 shortly thereafter in what would turn out to be a big mistake for them. I don’t miss Colorado in the Big 12 that much, but I would welcome them back.

I miss Nebraska the most. Missouri would be second. Colorado third. Texas A&M not all. Good riddance to what is more of a cult than a school. The SEC is more than welcome to that freakshow.

I do want to make it clear. I do not support expansion of the Big 12. 10 is the perfect number for a conference. You play everybody in football and everybody in basketball twice. However, if Nebraska or Colorado wanted to come crawling back I would take them back. Then promptly kick out Baylor. Then either TCU or West Virginia.

West Virginia would be better served being in a conference based in the east. But I also hate being in a conference with private schools. Mostly because they are not subject to the same open records laws that public schools are. That is how Baylor got away with massive cover-ups of their football team’s scores of sexual assaults.

That is also why whenever somebody brings up BYU joining the Big 12, it is a very hard “NO!” from this guy.

By adding these pictures to the Photography 139 Gallery, I was able to restore the following historic “An Artist’s Notebook” entries to their original glory:

Last 2 Home Games

Next Saturday’s walk down memory lane will involve a family photo shoot and joke glasse.

Elainie Homecoming Ch. 6

This is normally the time when I reflect on how my work from home week went this week. But I don’t really have anything to share this week. The main bonus I got from working from home this week is that I had a couple customers I had to work with outside of normal work hours. I didn’t have to hang around the office and wait to work with them. I just took a nap and did some yardwork, then I came back in and dealt with them.

I will get into details of the Master Playlist next Friday. I’m sure.

+++++++

Time once again to check in with pictures that were triggered by Elainie coming home last September. It is possible that I might be almost done with the 2019 backlog next week. More realistically, it will be the week after.

Here are some more pictures to enjoy:

The 2019 Howards – Subset Cuatro

Time for yet another collection of images from the 2019 Howard Family Photo Shoot. With this collection I am now over half-done curating the photos from this collection. The final collection will actually be a small one. Very small depending on what I do with the port-a-potty pictures that Jesse made us take.

This is your reminder that this week’s THE WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE theme is RULE OF THIRDS:

WEEK 244 - RULE OF THIRDS
RULE OF THIRDS

Think of RULE OF THIRDS like this:

The image is broken into 9 equal boxes. Place the subject of your image on one of the corners of the center box. NOT inside the middle box.

The subject could also go along one of the the 4 lines that go through the inside of the image. BUT not in the center of any of the middle boxes.

The reveal picture should be very helpful.

Happy photo harvesting!

Elainie Homecoming Ch. 5

Here in the 5th set of pictures triggered into existence by Elainie’s homecoming last September, Elainie makes a reappearance.

But there are also quite a few pictures of Alexis, Kupono, and Kanoa.

Of course, plenty of Sabas in this collection as well!

You’d think that we were halfway through all the Stensland photos, but we’re just warmed up now. So much more Stensland in our future!

The 2019 Howards – Subset Tres

We are really getting down to the nitty gritty of the 2019 backlog. Yet, at the same time, we have a really long ways to go. With that in mind, you’ll probably see lots of the Howards in the next several days. Not as many Howards as Stenslands, but still lots of Howards.

Here is the third set of images from the 2019 Howard Family Photo Shoot:

A & P #3

This is the final collection of images from my annual photo shoot with Scottie D.’s progeny. It feels like it was a little shorter than normal because it was freezing out there. The actual temperature, plus a pretty stiff breeze. The longer we were out there, the colder it got. Or maybe that is just the hypothermia talking.
