Slice of Life Vol. 6

I normally do not comment on the pictures for this project because I honestly don’t know a ton about them and frequently I’m not even sure who is even in the pictures. However, I will break with this tradition this week because for the first time in this project I have stumbled across a picture of me. This picture of me is very damaging to my current persona for people who don’t know about the mistakes of my youth.

For those of you that don’t know, when I was a child I was victimized by a brilliant propaganda poster. The strength of this propaganda was so strong that it took several years before I was able to break free of its grasp. I recently re-discovered the propaganda poster while I was downsizing. Although it is in terrible shape, I am planning on framing it and hanging it in the guest bedroom.

The poster that is hanging up is not the propaganda poster that lead me down the wrong path in my youth.

I don’t know why I had that stupid cat picture hanging up. Be assured that I will never have a cat picture hanging up in my current abode.

Yes, those are roses on the wall paper. I’ve told the story about how rough my childhood was before. Roses on my wallpaper was just a small part of it.

I still own that dogs playing poker tapestry. I should hang that up again at some point in the future.

Welcome to Beaver, Iowa

For reasons that are slightly inexplicable to me, I ended up in Beaver, Iowa yesterday morning. I’ve always felt that Beaver is a town that looks like it “walked” out of a horror movie. For this reason I once (years and years ago) took a series of pictures called “The Beaver Machete Massacre Project”.

It had been several years since I have wandered through the nearly abandoned streets of Beaver. In my absence the town has become even more of a ghost town. It has fallen even farther apart.

I did not spend much time in Beaver because I was meeting Teresa and Logan for lunch, but I did take a few images.

I am a big fan of modern ruins, so I will have to return to Beaver at some point for a Personal Photo Project when I have more time and a full supply of insect repellent.

Because I’m not 100% sure that Beaver isn’t a real life horror story, I will have to bring at least a couple of photo assistants with me for protection. Preferably the kind that have lots of pre-marital sex, drink lots of beer and do lots of drugs. The type that wear impractical shoes and fall down a lot while I’m running to my car (that will never be shutoff) to escape a chainsaw wielding maniac covered in the skin of his previous victims are the most desirable.

Flame On

A couple weekends ago I made a trip to State Center with Teresa and Mom so I could photograph their rose garden. As is frequently the case, they got bored and left me behind so they could go to a gas station.

When they came back they told me that the fire department was burning down a house. I finished up my rose photography after about 15 more minutes and we headed over to the fire.

Not Sent for Slumber
Not Sent for Slumber

I took the Not Sent for Slumber photos on a very beautiful Spring night after eating at Jeff’s Pizza with Shannon. It was also the same night Teresa and I found out the lineup for Stephens’ 2010-11 season. The lineup ended up being mostly disappointing, with the obvious exception of David Sedaris, but Jeff’s Pizza never disappoints.

I hope people like this style of picture because I have a few more of these in the hopper. 1 has been taken and the rest still only exist in my brain.
