Fairlicious

I only made it to the Iowa State Fair once this year. I went with Nader on the last day of the fair to pick up my entries for the Photography Salon.

I’ll try to do better next year.

I love the DNR Building!

Mmmmmmmmmm… Chocolate Moose!

Sara has already agreed that my birthday cake will look like this next year.

The Butterfly Exhibit was somewhat of a disappointment.

Not 100% sure what next week’s Random Wednesday will be. Probably some ISU football pictures.

Blog No. 1447

Now that I am caught back up, I’d like to step back and take stock of where this journal has went since its inception on August 9, 2006.

Since the last time I looked at these statistics, I have completed changed galleries. I can no longer show you what are the most popular photos in the Artistic and Snapshot galleries. However, I can show you the most popular pictures in the Smugmug Gallery.

Here are the 20 Most Popular:

20. Statue of Liberty

19. Youth Group Mission Trip Group Photo – Kansas City – 2011

18. Evie

17. Drenched in Loneliness

16. Alice

15. Alice

14. Kewer Wedding

13. Young Heroes Banquet

12. Young Heroes Bandquet

8.
11. Girl in the Blue Skirt Beta – 2011

10. Katelyn

9. Maddux

8. Maddux

7. Evie

6. Evie

5. Becky

4. Theories Pass

3. Must Be Truth

2. Turtle Pond Frog

1. Evie

You might be wondering what determines the popularity of a photo. Truth is, I don’t know all the details, but I can tell you what is the dominant factor. To quote the Smugmug website:

You can increase a photo’s popularity by moving your mouse over it and clicking the thumbs-up symbol that appears. You can cast one vote per photo.

You can also rate a photo or gallery with stars when you leave a comment.

There are other factors…like time. Photos from events past will usually be less popular than recent ones.

If you see a picture you like, you should take the 5 seconds to give it the thumbs up and maybe it will make the Top 20 list next time I do this little thing.

I also like to look at the Top Ten People that have been mentioned or photographed in the history of this journal.

10. Dad – 117
9. Carla – 118
8. Sara – 122
7. Willy – 124
6. Jen – 143
5. Teresa – 144
4. Derrick – 157
3. Shannon – 160
2. Jay – 180
1. Jesse – 195

Hope you found this at least moderately interesting. I’ll check back in on these things when I hit journal entry number 1,500.

Self-Portrait Project Week 17

I truthfully can say that none of these pictures were faked this week!

07/02/2012 – 8:19 PM (Happy Birthday Jen!)

07/03/2012 – 11:53 PM

07/04/2012 – 10:14 PM

07/05/2012 – 7:20 PM

07/06/2012 – 2:16 PM

07/07/2012 – 4:45 PM

07/08/2012 – 2:48 PM (Happy Birthday Jay!)

I am truly wondering if I will go any place fascinating this week!

Rusty Duck

I don’t want to rehash the painful memories of being denied a trip to the Rusty Duck. It is sufficient to say that I was invited to a dinner to the Rusty Duck and then disinvited to the Rusty Duck by Sara. I hold no grudges against Sara or Shawn since this disinvitation was out of their control AND because Shawn and his mom took my side on the divisive issue.

Plus, the next day Sara brought be a day old Rusty Duck burger and even though it was a day old and I warmed it up in a hospital microwave, it was still the best burger I’ve ever had in my life.

A few weeks later, I hopped in a car with Teresa, Ernie, and Mom and went to have a fresh burger from the Rusty Duck in Dexter, Iowa.

Here are a few pictures from the trip:

The Ultimate Cheeseburger

It did not disappoint. Eating that burger was a transcendent, nearly spiritual experience. I can’t wait to do it again.

Self-Portait Project Week 10

I was able to take a few pictures last week. I hope to have this project 100% back on task this week.

05/16/2012 – 7:13 PM

05/17/2012 – 8:44 PM

05/18/2012 – 9:03 PM

For the record, nearly 6 months into this project and Sara is the first person to ever request to be in one of the pictures. That is probably a profound statement on how my life is going. Crushing it!

Too bad the picture came out slightly out of focus. Well, what can you do?

Personal Photo Project of the Week #99

I only had time last year to make a handful of calendars. If you didn’t get a calendar this year, I am sorry. I only had one left and I gave it to Nader because he actually called and asked for one. If somebody begged I suppose I could print another one off, but who would want a calendar that is almost 25% useless?

Here are the images from this years Photography 139 Calendar:

As usual, Mike Vest helped finish up the calendars with his hole punching and binding skills. Thanks Mike!

Personal Photo Project of the Week #91

False Start

I’ve wanted to do a photo series based on the Ten Commandments for quite sometime now. This was originally an idea for, “Hey, don’t be murderizing anybody.” However, I’ve decided to take this in a different direction. So this is not a true start of that project.

Here are a few other False Start pictures.

Special thanks to Sara for securing an ask from her dad, no questions asked. He even sharpened it for me, even though he knew it was just a photo prop.
