RWPE Y2 #6 – Go!

I’m guessing that the holiday weekend might have curtailed the normal amount of submissions. Here are the submissions for GO!:

I went down and visited the Random Theme Generator and it quietly spit out the theme for this week:

SILENCE

Here is a look back at last year’s submissions:

Good luck with this week’s theme.

I’ve been down to visit the Random Theme Generator. Without much hesitation, it spit out this week’s theme:

GO!

This is a new theme for this year. It was suggested by Julie. As always, I look forward to the submissions.

RWPE Y2 #4: Harmony

Apparently there aren’t a ton of HARMONY lovers out there. I’m kind of surprised by the lack of participation this week, but what can you do. You buckle down and you carry on.

Here are the few submissions for this week:

I got up close and personal with the Random Theme Generator this week. It didn’t like it much, but it still spit out the following theme:

MACRO

What is macro photography?

To quote Wikipedia:

“The classical definition is that the image projected on the “film plane” is close to the same size as the subject. On 35 mm film, the lens is typically optimized to focus sharply on a small area approaching the size of the film frame. Most 35mm format macro lenses achieve at least 1:2, that is to say, the image on the film is 1/2 the size of the object being photographed. Many 35mm macro lenses are 1:1, meaning the image of the film is the same size as the object being photographed.
In recent years, the term macro has been used in marketing material to mean being able to focus on a subject close enough so that when a regular 6×4 inch print is made, the image is life-size or larger. With 35mm film this requires a magnification ratio of approximately 1:4, which demands a lower lens quality than 1:1. With digital cameras the actual image size is rarely stated, so that the magnification ratio is largely irrelevant; cameras instead advertise their closest focusing distance.”

The best way to think of the technical way to look at this project is that macro photography is close up photography of something that is small.

Here are a couple of examples:

Inferiority Complex - 2010

2007

Good luck with this theme. Remember, most cameras have a MACRO setting. It is the little icon that looks like a flower.

RWPE Y2 #3: Panning Camera Blur

There was a decent response to what I consider to be the most technically demanding (with the possible exception of PAINTING WITH LIGHT) theme of the 52 different themes.

Here are the submissions for PANNING CAMERA BLUR:

After two weeks of fairly technical themes, I hoped that the the Random Theme Generator would give out a more interpretable theme and it did cooperate. Here is this week’s theme:

HARMONY

That is a theme that is fairly open to interpretation. Here is look back at last year’s HARMONY submissions:

HARMONY

Good luck with this theme. Hopefully it will inspire many people to contribute next Monday!

RWPE Y2 #2: Long Exposure

I think the technical aspects of this theme scared off some contributors this week. Although I am excited to have a submission from Jesse who was a founding member of RWPE who quickly dropped out.

I should point out that I had some hiccups with my email system this morning. It is remotely possible that there are more submissions waiting for me when I get home, so check back later tonight to see if there were more submissions. Also don’t panic if your submission isn’t up, it will be tonight.

Here are the submissions for LONG EXPOSURE:

I’ve been down to speak to the Random Theme Generator and I begged it for a less technical theme, but it just spit in my eye and then spit out the following:

PANNING CAMERA BLUR

The idea of this theme is to track a moving object with a short enough exposure so that the subject remains in focus (in the ballpark of focus), but with a long enough exposure that the background is blurred. It is a way of conveying motion in a still photograph.

A look back at last year’s PANNING CAMERA BLUR submisions:

PANNING CAMERA BLUR

Hopefully many people out there are inspired by this weeks theme. Hopefully next week I’m not in so much physical pain that I don’t screw up my email system on Monday morning.

RWPE Y2 #1: Reflections

Year 2 started out with a bang! Lots of submissions! First time submitter! Welcome aboard Alicia Vermeys!

Reflections

She can’t be too careful anymore,
Her memories have opened up that door.
Watching the tide bury her castle,
Wasted dreams are now just a hassle.

Who she once was when she ruled the world,
That girl is gone, reality unfurled.
Demons in the people she has met,
Subdued emotion, hearts do forget

A bitter thought will eventually melt,
After all the suffering is dealt.
Time to build new castles in the sand,
Learn from the past, take time by the hand.

I’ve been to the cave that houses the new and improved Random Theme Generator. The new generator is fancy and shiny and… it doesn’t work. So I walked over to a different cave and fired up old reliable. It did not disappoint. Here is the theme for this week:

LONG EXPOSURE

This is one of the technical themes. It is hard to set a real value on what is a “long exposure”, but I would say at a minimum, the shutter speed should be longer than 1/15 of a second. I would recommend trying an exposure of at least a second, but as always, you are free to interpret the theme in whatever way you see fit.

The Random Generator has spoken for this week’s theme:

REFLECTIONS

There is still only one rule. The picture has to be taken the week of the theme. The deadline for submissions remains Monday at Noon.

Good luck this year!

RWPE #51 – Peace of Mind

There were more submissions for PEACE OF MIND than I expected with the business of the holiday season. That is pleasing to me. Here are the submissions:

Christopher D. Bennett

Dawn Krause

Mike Vest

Shannon Bardole

So it has come down to one final theme. Then this project has officially ran its course. 52 weeks. 52 random pictures.

Here is the final theme:

EYE

I think this is a great theme to end year 1 of this project on. It is a very broad theme. Everybody has an eye or two. Everybody knows at least 1 person with an eye or two. There is a holiday this week, but it is a meaningless holiday, so I hope there are plenty of submissions.

RWPE #50 – Restaurants

Exactly the same number of people that love LOVE, loved RESTAURANTS. Here are the submissions:

Christopher D. Bennett

Shannon Bardole of Little White Lye Soap

Dawn Krause of Impassioned Versifier

Mike Vest of Waxen Media

This is it. Only 2 themes left. Somebody with a really good memory and a web browser could figure out the last remaining theme after the Random Theme Generator spit out an apropos theme for the week where Christians (like me) celebrate the birth of the savior.

Peace of Mind

I just want to throw out a reminder to anybody thinking of submitting a picture. The deadline is still noon on Monday. However, you don’t have to wait until Sunday night or Monday morning to submit.

I hope many of you find peace of mind this week. I know I will. Candlelight Service on Christmas Eve is my favorite church service of the year.

Also, the “Comments” section on my journal entries has been more active in the last week or so. This is something that I of course love, but the “comments notifier” plugin has went belly up. I’m actively working to solve the problem, but until I get fixed, you won’t be getting an email notifying you if I have responded to your comment. Or if somebody else has added a comment. So check back. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I suppose I could forward comments for the time being.

Also I would like to thank Kelly from The Colorado Grill for allowing me to take my RWPE photo this week. We had a lengthy conversation about the calendar during FNSC. It is always good to touch base with my fans.

RWPE #49 – Love

A few people had their imaginations lit by the concept of LOVE. There were 4 submissions. The male to female ration was 3:1. Proof positive that men are the truly romantic gender.

Mike Vest

Christopher D. Bennett

Jason Baier

Julie Johnson

Only 3 weeks left. The theme for this week might be a little tricky:

RESTAURANTS

I can imagine this will be a hard theme for some people. Especially with a busy holiday season, but I have hope. Maybe there are people that love restaurants more than they love love?
