It is also Frank’s birthday. Frank was instrumental in getting this website up and going. Its first home was the webserver living in his basement. He helped get it set up originally and hosted it for free and helped with the domain registration. I don’t think I’ve seen Frank since the pandemic started, and that really sucks. Happy birthday Frank!

I started my freezing flowers in blocks of ice with your standard daisy. But I thought I would try some flowers with more color. So next I tried Brown-eyed Susans and Zinnias.

I wasn’t done playing with this idea still. So there are more ice block flower pictures yet to be curated.

Girl Don’t Play the Fool Now

Today’s collection of pictures was taken in the middle of August. I was still playing around with photographing a flower frozen in a block of ice. I was still using a normal daisy. This is a concept that I will continue to play with in the future and this wasn’t the last time I played with this idea in 2020.

There are also other pictures from the day to boot.

One thing you shouldn’t do is leave a block of ice unattended in the backyard when Naima is around. She is probably going to take off with it. Then drop it. Then roll around on it. Then chew on it. Then not give it back. This is what she does.

I need to start today by wishing all veterans a Happy Veterans Day!

Happy Veterans Day!

Here are some facts about the veteran population in the United States from the History Channel:

18.2 million living veterans served during at least one war as of 2018.
9 percent of veterans are women.
7 million veterans served during the Vietnam War.
3 million veterans have served in support of the War on Terrorism.
Of the 16 million Americans who served during World War II, about 325,000 were still alive as of 2020.
2 million veterans served during the Korean War.

I just want to start by congratulating Joe Biden on winning the election to become the next President of the United States of America!

Back when I was on President Quest 2020, my search for who would be the next President of the United States, I did go see Joe Biden at the Boone County Fairgrounds. I did get my picture taken with him. Joe took the picture with my phone:

PRESIDENT QUEST 2020 – JOE BIDEN

I spent my election day on Tuesday as a Mail-In Ballot Poll Watcher at the Boone County Courthouse. It was 12 hours that were very educational, very interesting, and very boring. I plan on writing a whole thing on that day (because I have much to say), but the short version is, I was very impressed with the people who do what is an incredibly tedious and incredibly thankless job. They do it very well and they do it very fair. These people are saints!

The pictures from the folder 2010-05-02 are from the day that Alexis and my Mom came over and planted some flowers at my house. Mostly around my light post. A flowerbed that I am going to expand, maybe considerably, in 2021.

By adding these pictures to the Photography 139 Gallery, I was able to restore the following historic “An Artist’s Notebook” entries to their original glory:

Back in September, I took some supermacro images while I was expereminting with bellows. I need to get back to that. Macro photography is a good winter photo subject. Not that I’m ready to give up the out of doors yet, or at all, but you know what I’m saying.

In a couple weeks, I might be able to start taking Sundays off. Heck, in a month or so, this might become a need to know type blog. We’ll see if I ever get that caught up.

He Sure is a Good Friend

Today’s collection is a series of macro photos I took of a grasshopper hanging out by my back patio. I took this series of pictures back in August. Looking at these pictures I think has triggered the earliest I’ve ever missed warm weather. Even though the temperature yesterday was fairly decent.

At least the weather for Halloween is supposed to be okay and it is supposed to be pretty nice on Election Day.

Ice Ice Daisy

I took these pictures on what was surely a beautiful July day. I was beginning to work on a photo project where I freeze a flower in a block of ice. I still really haven’t got one I’m looking for exactly, but this was the beginning of the dream. A dream that I continue to pursue to this day. But this post is mostly other pictures.

While I was already missing all the flowers that populate my yard, now I’m starting to miss the insects. So sad.

Whew! This is a big one. Just by adding these pictures to the SmugMug Gallery from the folder 2010-04-29, I was able to fix 5 “An Artist’s Notebook” posts. I believe I added pictures to 14 different photo albums.

The pictures in this folder are taken from over several days of vacation I took back in 2010. Some in Minnesota. Some at Iowa State. Lots of flowers. A few of people.
