Glory

My man Willy McAlpine (I think he should run under the name Willis McAlpine, but that is just me) recently entered and dominated a 5K in Nevada.

He won the event by almost 2 full minutes. A domination that I hope does not deter future runners from competing against him.

Here are a few pictures of the Champion and his medal:

I have yet to witness Willy run in person this year, but I believe that I will get the opportunity again in the near future.

Track

A couple of weeks back I went to storied Goeppinger Field to watch Logan run in one of his final track meets.

Here are a few pictures from the event:

There should have been more pictures of Logan actually running, but I was experimenting with a feature on the new camera and it backfired on me.

Personal Photo Project of the Week #102

Go for the Great
Go for the Great

This project was just to capture some pictures of storied Goeppinger Field with the fisheye lens. Hope you are enjoying the fisheye lens 1/20th of as much as I am enjoying it, because it isn’t going away. I expect you’ll see more sporting events captured with it in the future. I’m really excited to take it to The Jack this Fall.

The rest of the Go for the Great Series.

Of course thanks to Logan for running track. Otherwise I wouldn’t have even been at this event and taken these pictures.

Regatta

A few weeks back I went to watch Jen and her crew dominate the Des Moines Regatta. I used to have a bunch of statistics to back up this assertion, but they have since fleed from this old man’s brain.

I do know that Jen’s crew got the gold medal in their division and their time was good enough to beat at least one of the colleges competing.

I’m going to split these pictures into 2 categories. The first category is Evie doing cute Evie things:

Monkeys are Evie’s favorite although I think monkeys should be spelled monkies. Not sure why I feel that way.

This awesome baby backpack enabled Derrick and I to do some serious “extreme” hiking.

Too extreme for tuckered out Evie.

Most people wouldn’t advertise this fact, but unpictured was Evie’s first trip through a homeless camp. I’m pretty proud of having played a role in this “Evie’s First”.

Here are a collection of Jen’s crew in full domination mode:

There are many other high quality regatta pictures in this album:

I might have said this last week and it was a lie, but next week’s random collection will definitely involve Senior Pictures.

RWPE Y2 #19 – COLORFUL

There were a few submissions for COLORFUL. Here they are:

I’ve been down to the Random Theme Generator and it gave me the following theme:

PAINTING WITH LIGHT

A look back at last year’s PAINTING WITH LIGHT submissions:

PAINTING WITH LIGHT – 2010

The best way to think of PAINTING WITH LIGHT is having an object in total darkness and then illuminating just that object. This is the most technically demanding theme of the year, so I hope there nearly as many submissions for this as there were last year.

The Archives: Edition Eleven

These pictures come from: backup/Old My Pictures/Egg Toss

These pictures were taken in Dustin’s dad’s basement with a webcam. They were used to promote a crew picnic that I was running for the Boone Outpost of the Evil Clown Empire.

Perhaps the marquee attraction at this crew picnic was going to be the egg toss competition. A sport that Dustin and I so thoroughly dominated that eventually the sport lost its national appeal. America eventually gets sick of the same two guys holding up the trophy at the end of every single competition.

The event itself ended up being kind of a downer as it was leaked at this event that I was transferring to the Campus Outpost of the Evil Clown Empire and some people left in a strange combination of sadness and anger. The reason for this movement on my part involved a woman named Heather that I absolutely could not stand. As you may or may not know, I am pretty easygoing and can work with just about anybody. So you can only manage how irritating this person must have been.

The short version of the story is that she was a combination of two things I can’t stand: laziness and lying.

For the long version of the story… well maybe I will write about it someday on the Robot Monster Bros. website.

However, perhaps the real hiccup of the event was the actual Egg Toss. In a match that was poorly refereed, a Chris Kramer and a Nathan Mallas were crowned Egg Toss champs in what can’t even be described as an upset of epic proportions.

It would be a great story, but they very clearly cheated. They had an extra egg that they hid and used when their first egg broke. I wish I was making that up, but I’m not.

To this day, this is the only blemish on Dustin and I’s perfect egg toss record. A blemish that comes with an asterisk.

Next week’s folder will be: backup/Old My Pictures/Family

Be Aggressive!

On Sunday I descended into the depths of Missouri and Kansas on Sunday to watch Alexis compete in competitive cheerleading.

I had spoken with our Associate Pastor Andrea about good barbecue joints in Kansas City and she recommended Jack Stack for ribs and Oklahoma Joe’s for sandwiches. I looked into both places and found that there was a Jack Stack in the same suburb as the competition so we checked it out.

In a word… divine!

Everything was great. The fried mushrooms, the warm carrot cake, the ribs, the burnt ends, the beans… everything. I was particularly impressed with a cheesy corn side dish. Teresa is researching the recipe and we (meaning not me) are going to try to replicate it for our Thanksgiving meal.

I should point out that the carrot cake was one of the top 3 desserts I have ever had from a restaurant. Right up there with the tiramisu from Cosi Cucina or the warm chocolate cake from the cruise.

Photographing moving targets in low light does not make for the best pictures, but please enjoy a few pictures from the day:

It was a good trip, but I was glad to get back out of the state of Missouri. Very glad.
