KS

I spent the last weekend in Manhattan, Kansas and accomplished all of my goals for that trip:

1. Witness an Iowa State victory.
2. Eat Nate’s cooking.
3. Eat a Varsity Donut.
4. Get to the top of Manhattan Hill.
5. Get to the top of KS Hill.

I have new goals for my next trip to Manhattan, but I’ll share those after I go there.

But we should really focus on Goal #5. Get to the top of KS Hill. I don’t know a lot about the city of Manhattan, but based on their landmarks, it was founded by people that like making large concrete letters.

On one side of the river is a giant MANHATTAN made out of the concrete letters. On the other side of the river is a giant KS. Also made out of concrete letters.

The picture below is the view from on top of the giant KS.

My return trip to Manhattan will involve warmer weather and better planning on my part. This view from KS Hill is just one of many things in Manhattan that I want to photograph at night.

Kobe

A picture of something broken down and old. From my Aunt Linda’s farm.

As you all know E’s here to rule… No wait that isn’t right.

As you all know, I love rusted out old stuff. I will need to photograph this farm more thoroughly at some point.

Time to share another image from my Aunt Linda’s farm:

I do need to return there and photograph the place when I have much more time.

Kansas Weed

Sharing another picture from a west(ish) Kansas sunset because Laura says that west(ish) Kansas has the best sunsets.

When I told people I was going to visit Manhattan, they usually say: “Cool!”

Then I say, “No, the one in Kansas.”

Then they say, “Oh.”

After a long bit of silence they say, “Why?”

I can’t say that the restaurants have as good of food as real Manhattan (but Nate’s food more than compensates) or the sites are as interesting as real Manhattan. But the people can’t be beat. Think I’ll go back in January.

The Driving Force

Wells have always been a source of fascination for me. But I’m also very glad that I don’t have to drink well water on a regular basis.

This well is from my Aunt Linda’s farm.

The Well at Linda's Farm

I actually didn’t throw anything into the well. I consider this a sign of maturity.

PHOTOSHOP

I don’t recall.

But Even a Fool Will Tell You

On my recent trip to Manhattan I spent some time at my Aunt Linda’s farm. There are many fascinating things deteriorating in her yard. Of course, this is the kind of thing I love to photograph.

Below is one such thing.

PHOTOSHOP

I did some stuff.

Highway 177

Just south of Manhattan a few miles is a scenic view. On my recent trip to visit Nate and Laura, I stopped at this scenic view and snapped a few photos. Below is one of my favorites.

I took this photo on my Saturday in Manhattan. I wish I would have visited this place on my Friday in Manhattan.

Stupid People

I thought I would revisit Minnehaha Falls for the day.

I called this post STUPID PEOPLE, not because I think people are stupid, but because I had to Photoshop people out of this picture. Why are they in the park when I want to take a picture?

Gravity

A couple months back I went to Minnesota to visit Bethany, Becca, and Dae Hee. We spent one muggy afternoon visiting Minnehaha Falls.

I do plan on revisiting these falls in the winter this year. Hopefully. Better prepared. Hopefully.

Capital or Capitol?

Over the years a few people have asked me to bring back the WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE. Without giving the matter a second of thought, I’ve always immediately responded, “Go suck an egg!”

However, since I myself have struggled to take camera in hand quite a bit lately (including missing an awesome photo op with Naima and a squirrel recently) and the fact that I (as a man of the people) should try to give the people what they want.

Therefore, On September 14, I will bring the WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE back. With it being a holiday and all that jazz, I will need some time to get my ducks in a row. If any of you have any duck wrangling experience, you know that this can be quite the ordeal.

I’ll publish all the rule and that noise on that date. Get your cameras or cell phones or selfie sticks ready.

Today’s picture…

The east side of the capitol on a rainy night.

If you are wondering, like just about every other picture I’ve posted lately, it was taken on the day I went to the State Fair.
